We are a group of 12 Dartmouth
College students out to change the world — one waste veggie oil
powered bus at a time. Some
of us our new environmentalists who have become concerned only
recently, others have grown up with a deeply ingrained environmental
ethos. Although we are many different things, we are united in
a common belief that a group of enthusiastic, informed individuals
armed with the right information can change the world for the better.
So we’ve chosen to spend the summer together to teach Americans
about climate change and the energy issues facing our nation, as
well as — and this is the important part — what they
can do about it.
Four of our crew are '08 graduates. Check out resumes for:

Andrew Zabel '09
Hometown: Fairfield, Connecticut
Government Major and Public Policy Minor
2008 Bus General Manager
At Dartmouth, the Big Green Bus makes
active attempts to swallow my life. This is my second summer
riding the Bus and I don't know if I can imagine a better way
of spending a summer. I'm an avid fiction reader and am looking
forward to making inroads on my list during our long hauls
this summer. I've got one year of Dartmouth left to savor and
then I'm off to see if I can set foot on six continents by
the age of 25. I have no idea where life will take me aside
from the ski slopes when I'm 80, but I'm ready to live the
belief that we can do well by doing good. Back to Top

Hometown: San Francisco, California
Major: Environmental Studies
As a 6th generation Californian, my
two passions are people and our environment. At
school I work at the Dartmouth Organic Farm, play rugby, serve
as President of the Interfraternity Council, and work for the
college as the Green Greeks Intern, helping Greek houses on
campus become more sustainable. I'm on
the Bus to inspire and be inspired. For the future I'm
exploring the ideas of environmental law and sustainable development. In
my spare time I like making and watching movies, backpacking,
live music, and wasting time with friends, preferably around
a campfire. Back to Top
Elysa Corin '08
Hometown: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Major: Physics
Minors: Astronomy, Environmental Studies
I like exploring new places and finding
myself in unpredictable situations; while at Dartmouth I have
embraced this by participating in a service trip to Belarus,
studying abroad in Argentina, and spending a summer working
at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. Following these exploits, the BGB is my idea of the
perfect summer adventure. My time teaching kids at a science
museum in my hometown has shown me how much I enjoy taking what
I learn in my science classes and making it accessible for members
of the general public. I hope to do a lot of this while
on the road. After this summer I'd like to become a total
nerd and get a PhD. Right now, I am looking for something
interesting and worthwhile to do with myself while I take a year
or two off before graduate school.

I'm one of those Minnesota students
who migrated to Dartmouth for the warm weather. Other than bleeding
green with the bus crew, I walk backwards as a tour guide and
spend my time singing with the Rockapellas — an all female acapella
group dedicated to spreading social awareness through song. I
could not be more ecstatic to make The Big Green Bus my home
for this summer and will be working with PR and organizing discussions
with mayors
and other city planners throughout the states. Back

Trey Roy '09
Hometown: Virginia Beach, Virginia
Major: Engineering
I've spent most of my life by the
ocean with warm weather. Even the brutally cold Dartmouth winters
can't persuade my love for this school and all the opportunities
its given me, one of which being the Bus. I study mechanical
engineering and plan on doing the BE and MEM. Some of my travels
include spending my spring in Mexico on a language study abroad
and this winter I will be in Chile volunteering for several months.
I'm involved with the Ultimate Frisbee team, Sigma Phi Epsilon
fraternity, and love to DJ. I still have a few years left before
I need to figure out what I want to do in the real world ,but
maybe I'll find out while traveling on the Bus. Back

Kevin McGregor ‘11
Hometown: Russellville, Arkansas
Major: Engineering?
Growing up in Arkansas, I spent a lot
of time developing a love of the outdoors and traveling around
to see new places. At
Dartmouth, I have been keeping myself busy playing Ultimate Frisbee,
kayaking, mountain biking, and getting settled into my new home. I
plan on majoring in Engineering modified with Environmental Studies,
with the hope of pursuing a career in sustainable design or development. I’m
excited to connect with people around the country and explore
the possibility of living life to the fullest without eating
red meat.

John Beardsley '08
Hometown: South Salem, New York
Major: Comparative Literature
Having spent a winter volunteering
on the Gulf Coast, a summer interning at a music magazine,
and another winter studying in Paris, riding The Big Green
Bus fits nicely into my clearly-defined and coherent set of
skills and interests. We leave Dartmouth barely 2 days after
I graduate, by which time I will hopefully have a job either
continuing to learn languages and/or guiding and teaching whitewater
kayaking. Despite their breadth, I recognize through each of
my interests a multitude of environmental and social justice
issues facing the US and the world at large. For me, the Bus
is the best way I've got to meet a whole lot of people and
learn a whole lot more about fixing our problems and inspiring
change. Back to Top
Alice Bradley ’11
Hometown: Chugiak, Alaska
Major: Undecided
I'm not sure what I want to do with
my life yet, but I know I want to see the world and to change
it. As a freshman here at Dartmouth, I still have time to make
up my mind (I'm currently deciding between Math, Physics, Government,
or maybe Philosophy). Back home, I spent a lot of time working
with Alaska Youth for Environmental Action and Green Effects
recycling club; here I'm involved with the Dartmouth Outing Club,
the Nordic Ski Team, and, of course, the Big Green Bus.

Bennet Meyers '08
Hometown: San Jose, California
Major: Physics with a minor in Environmental Studies
2008 Bus Chief Engineer
Work Interests: I am interested getting
work experience in a setting where I can put my
interests in physics, engineering, and environmental studies
to good use. Resume (pdf)
As a life-long “camp kid” (and a 7th generation
Californian), I gained a deep enjoyment of nature spending
my summers in the High Sierra. Some of my best memories from
childhood are hiking through the Sierra-Nevada Mountains, swimming
in mountain lakes, and sleeping out under the stars. Now, I
enjoy any activity that gets me outside: skiing, whitewater
kayaking, hiking, or just tossing a frisbee with friends. On
campus I’m involved with Ledyard Canoe Club, Bones Gate
Fraternity, and completing an honors thesis in Physics. Having
converted my own truck to run on straight vegetable oil, I’m
exited to be charged with the task of keeping the bus running
this summer.

Nathan Mazonson '09
Hometown: Menlo Park, California
Major: Environmental Science
Minor: Engineering
My love for the outdoors drew me from California to Dartmouth,
where I am currently a Junior with an Environmental Science
major and an Engineering minor. If I am not absorbed in the
bus, you will most likely find me ski patrolling or playing
soccer. I am concerned by the increasing disconnect between
people and the environment we inhabit. I hope, while on the
bus, to better understand the perspectives that shape our country,
so that we can move towards effective, realistic, and sustainable
solutions to environmental issues.

Dave "Drago" Lindberg
'09
Hometown: Long Beach, California
Major: Chemistry and Engineering
My true life passions lie in tinkering and discovery. I severely
enjoy everything hands-on, stemming from a childhood of Lego
blocks and model airplanes. These days I spend those efforts
fixing electronics and building fun stuff. My Dartmouth career
has acquainted me with playing ultimate frisbee, working at the
student jewelry workshop, studying abroad in Berlin, learning
silly made-up games, and being out in the New Hampshire wilderness.
In the coming years I hope to find the best way to combine all
of my interests into an actual career, which for now proves to
be quite a challenge. After the youthful realization that I couldn't
grow up to be a bear, I find myself attempting to compromise
between the diverse desires to work with music, teaching, artsy
product development, Hollywood set design, or as an actual chemical
or environmental engineer. Back to Top

Ro Wang '08
Hometown: Taipei, Taiwan
Major: Environmental Studies
As a graduating senior, I am both terrified and thrilled to
be leaving schooling behind and entering the real world. More
then anywhere else, Dartmouth has kindled my passion for the
outdoors and a desire to live a vagabond existence (for now
at least). On campus I sing in a co-ed a cappella group, try
to ski and climb as much as possible, and dream of open ocean
sailing and one day owning my own 50 foot skiff. In the future
I hope to be involved in fisheries and resource management,
but for now I'm looking forward to the amazing people and places
we'll meet and see while on the Bus this summer. Back to Top
