Day 30: Road Trip with the Car Care Council

Today we are on the road once more, crossing through the arid lands of Arizona, mountains dominating the landscape to our left and right. As I was taking my turn at the wheel this afternoon I had one of those glorious moments of awakening and gratitude- I’m driving a 44-foot long coach bus that is burning used vegetable oil. It’s liberating and empowering to be free of foreign fossil fuels. In our own way, we’re supporting this growing movement to sustain the earth and our communities. We’re very aware that most of the vehicles that pass us on the road are not large green commercial buses however. The infrastructure in place across the United States supports cars running on gasoline and while I firmly believe that a shift can and must happen in our transportation sector, there are steps that we can take as individuals now.

This summer the Big Green Bus is partnering with the Car Care Council, the driving force behind “Be Car Care Aware,” a consumer education campaign centered around the importance of preventive vehicle maintenance. In addition to safety, dependability and pride in ownership, a big goal of “Be Car Care Aware” is to provide tips and resources to car owners to make their vehicles more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient and running green and healthy.

If you’ve been to one of our events this summer you know that we have been distributing car care guides compiled by the Car Care Council. These guides have useful tips on upkeep of your car that will help reduce your gas use and ultimately drive greener. So please grab a few for you and your friends when you see us on the road this summer! Grab a Car Care Guide at the next BGB event!

Never be deterred by your capacity as an individual. Be inspired by it. Feel empowered. Within you lies infinite the possibility to innovate, motivate and make positive change.

With gratitude,

Kells
